On June 24, 2017 representatives of institutions that have done research in the Well Fields in the past will give a talk on the highlights of their work. The Virginia Museum of Natural History, East Tennessee State University, and others will tell about the results of their past work and the contribution the Saltville sites have provided to science. 100th Anniversary of the first research dig in Saltville June 19-23, 20

The Museum of the Middle Appalachians will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first research dig in Saltville from June 19 through 23. The Carnegie Museum was called to the Well Fields in 1917 when a brine well collapsed exposing large fossil bones. Dr. Charles Bartlett will direct a dig near the ball fields in Saltville. ETSU Paleontology Dig in Saltville: now through June 23, 2017

East Tennessee State University paleontology dig in the Saltville Well Fields continues through June 23. Visitors are welcome to observe during digging hours 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Monday through Friday. The site is conveniently located off the Helen Barbrow birding trail.
